How can I be prepared for the swim team?

I signed up for my high school swim team and I really need to get prepared & such to impress the coaches at the camp this summer. Is there anything I can do? I have a pool in my backyard so I could practice. Help! So far I'm planning on practicing my breast stroke and treading water. I can do a flip turn and my free style is pretty good. I need more ideas. =D Thank you!

  1. If your backyard pool isn't at least a 25-yard lap lane, I would suggest going to a local YMCA pool or other location where you can do laps. There are four competition strokes, freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke and back stroke. You should be competent in all four at the high school level. If not, then look for an instructor and get some lessons.
  2. You should work on your dives, and other strokes, start swimming often so that you are not sore when you start swimming there. If you can, get a kick board a pull booie, so that you can strengthen your arms and legs individually, and better your stroke. you should also work on your breathing, breathe every three strokes, not two.
  3. if you are going to a swim camp (because you said you want to impress the coaches at camp this summer) then that is a great start. swim camps are great, (as a matter of fact, im going to one this summer). and really the best way to be prepared is just to practice. but i hate it when people tell me that, so (im a swimmer also), and there are workouts at your local ymca that are great. butterfly is, in my opinion, the hardest stroke. and being prepared for that means just doing lots of pull ups/dips/weights... and many more machines. but while your in the water, you can practice doing builds, because that was the biggest shock for me when i first started swimming:how much endurance you need.so try like 4 25m. freestyle making each one faster, and you can do this with more than jsut freestyle.and besides what i have said so far, just have mental competiviness and ppicture yourself winning the race. the meets are very fun. but out of what i learned you can'[t be nervice, your working yourself up for nothing, and also when you are acutally at a meet racing, don't look around to see where the other swimmers are cuz that will slow you down hope i helped, and good luck!!!! ;)
  4. learn to do the butterfly really good. to me, the butterfly is the most impresive. espesially if you can do it really clean and for long distances. get someone to help you if you need it.
