What can I give my friends instead of a flower as a small gift?

Our school musical is approaching, and we always give our friends a flower or small gift on closing night. In the past people have given a carnation or mylar balloon, and sometimes candy. One time a girl gave out tiny flashlights that said "You light up the stage!". What can I give out this year that is inexpensive but cute and unique? I'd like to keep it under three dollars a person because I have a lot of people.

1. Maybe a small box of chocolate. That is always a hit. And some small boxes are under 3 dollars. Hope this helps.
2. Under $3.00? Well I know where I live you can't buy a pack of gum so cheap.
3. How about a short, hand-written note telling each of them something you like or appreciate about them? Most people love to read something nice about themselves. In my day of musicals, only the director and AD got flowers. The rest of us went out and whooped it up at a local restaurant or ice cream parlor. :-)
